Every year, Christopher and I have the privilege of joining our friend and actor Ernie Castelo at the Pageant of the Masters Media Preview Night at the beginning of June. The Festival of the Arts in Laguna beach is a world renowned collection of artists celebrating art in all its forms all summer long right on the coast of Southern California. The Pageant of the Masters is the world famous celebration of art in “living pictures” and this year, the theme is called “Festival Heist”. Inspired by shows like Sherlock and the History Detectives, this year’s theme explores the history of unsolved mysteries, discoveries, and heists revolving around famous works of art. If you’re around this summer, get yourself some tickets to this extraordinary production and make a fancy date night out of it! Here are some shots from media preview night to whet your palate….Behind the scenes in the set design department of the Pageant… these artists are recreating masterpieces!
Each masterpiece includes live actors painted to fit perfectly into each work of art. It’s pretty much an advanced version of paint by numbers….
And all the clothing worn by the actors is painted and tailored to to the “T”. So intricate! The final step is to place the actors into the paintings and secure them in for showtime! It’s such a cool thing to see these pieces come together! The final presentation! They don’t even look like there are real people in these!
Edmonia Lewis’ “Death of Cleopatra”. WOW.
