John and Liz’s “Day After” Shoot

Meet John and Liz. It’s their 1 year wedding anniversary and they chose to give each other the gift of photos to document this milestone! I met these two waaaay back in 2010 when we did their engagement photos. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of photographing their 2011 wedding, hanging out at Nordstrom with Liz (who happens to be a VERY fashion saavy manager there), and now…. photographing their 1 year anniversary. These two are so much fun to be around and I am so lucky to know them!

We met at Casper’s Wilderness Park in San Juan Capistrano on a beautifully sunny spring day. The grass looked soft and slightly pastel-ish in hue. As we drove through the park scouting for good spots, we marveled at the way the sun fell on the forest…. it cast unusually soft light on everything from the trees to the grass. Even though this sounds slightly melo-dramatic, I would have described the light as magical… the kind of light that gives me butterflies and triggers an overwhelming desire to take pictures of everything I see. If you know me well, you’ve probably witnessed such a socially awkward moment…. when Kate suddenly disappears and starts taking pictures of a stranger’s shoes, her cup of coffee on a bench, and some poor bug that happened to be sitting on a flower petal at that moment in time… However, on this particular afternoon… it wasn’t just me loving the light. And the three of us… John and Liz in front of my camera, and me behind the camera…. it WAS magic. Here are my absolute favorites from the shoot…..

1 YEAAAAARRR!!!

Wardrobe change into her wedding dress… doesn’t she look AMAZING?!!!

Liz even had some surprise flowers made  for the occasion… aren’t they cool?!

Congratulations, you two. John… you are so sweet with your wife. I love how you love her. And Liz, you are simply the best wife I know… not only are you an amazing cook, but you support John in his dreams and goals fiercely. Together, you are a couple to be envied… and I’m so glad you’ve given me the opportunity to journey with you, and to document your love story.
