The adventures of 2013 began this past weekend when Christopher and I went in search of my Christmas present… a kitten. (See Christmas photo here.) We’ve been married about one and a half years and even though we’re quite happy just the two of us… we were lacking a very important fuzzy source of joy in our lives…. a cat. So for a week or so, we drove all over tarnation trying to find the perfect little addition to our home. Finally, after a long search, we found this little mustached man.
We chose to rescue a kitten instead of buying a pure bred or pet store cat because there’s a surplus of animals circulating through the shelter system in Southern California (and everywhere else, for that matter) and we wanted to do our part to make a small difference. Shelters can only hold so many animals before they reach capacity, and once they reach capacity, euthanization is the only other alternative besides waiting for people to adopt them. It’s really sad. But the good news is, there are people out there making a difference within this systemic problem. Animal advocates rescue animals from the shelters before they’re put to sleep in order to give them another shot at adoption. The site I found really helpful was Adoptapet.com, which showcases animals available for adoption and provides info on where and when to meet the animals and possibly take them home. This is how we found our kitten!
Meet Hugo Flash…. a cuddly and spunky little Siamese mix. He’s almost 12 weeks old, weighs a whopping 2 pounds, and he has a little bob tail instead of the normal cat tail. While we haven’t gotten much sleep in the past few days we’ve had him, we’re really enjoying his playful energy and soothing cuddles. He’s the cutest little mustached kitten I could have ever hoped for and I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of him around here…. Happy Tuesday everyone!
