Christopher’s First Day of School

Today was a memorable day for Christopher and I…. more so for Christopher than for me, but still. Today was his first day of teaching 2nd and 3rd graders! It may not sound like a big deal at first glance, but it totally is. Christopher graduated in 2007 with his BA and credential in Elementary Education and has applied to 40+ schools every year since then for a full time teaching job. As you probably all know, getting a full time job as a teacher in California is almost as rare as spotting a purple cow…. so it’s been quite a discouraging journey getting rejected over and over for years and years.

Impacting kids’ lives and making a tangible difference in their education has been a tremendous passion of his longer than I’ve known him. So today, this dream come true is an answer to a lot of people’s prayers and too us, evidence that God knows the desires of our hearts and longs to give those desires to us at the perfect time for us to receive them. God is GOOD… and even after years of prayer and lots of doubt, He is alive and present through it all. Today… a day of nerves, excitement, and a lot of  joy, we can feel His embrace and encouraging pat on the back…. “Go get ’em!” And we are so thankful.

Here’s a few “First day of school” shots I took of Christopher as he headed out the door this morning….  Such a handsome teacher!

And here are a few iPhone shots of all the set up and decorating we’ve been doing for his classroom! He’s super excited about his music wall and the gallery of  “masterpiece work” we made…

If you see him, or have a chance on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, send him some encouraging thoughts and comments! 🙂
